We have asked the Directors and Sub-Directors of this year’s camps to look back on their previous experience with TOKIHA and share with us some of the valuable takeaways they have earned, as they look ahead on the 10th anniversary of TOKIHA’s camps since its birth. We hope to showcase to our audience how the staff and campers may liberate themselves through immersive collaborations in the brief moments we spend together in one summer…
Himari:
I gained lots of energy from the young high schoolers and junior high schoolers through the TOKIHA camp last year. Activities I mostly enjoyed were campfire, self-empowerment, and Banquet.
During the Campfire, I loved socializing with the campers. It was the very first time chatting with lots of campers. Sharing backgrounds, talking about hobbies, and making delicious s’mores created a truly warm atmosphere.
The Self-Empowerment session was particularly impactful. Participating alongside the campers and holding stars provided a rare moment for self-reflection.
The Banquet was the undisputed highlight of the summer camp. The energy was electric as we all sang "A.P.T." out loud. It was a beautiful, memorable conclusion to the season that solidified our bond as a community. I truly thought it was a right decision to participate in this camp at that time.
Ryota:
I’m glad I was able to join TOKIHA 2025. I really enjoyed everything. Among them, I enjoyed the most were family bonding, self-expression, English discussion and family project. Family bonding was so great. Running around with water balloons is something we do less and less as we get older, so it felt fresh and fun. I'd be glad if champers also felt like that.
Meena:
My favorite activities at camp were Identity strands, Scavenger hunt, and Haunted walk!
Identity strands we discussed topics close to our hearts. It was so touching to see campers open up and share their stories. It’s my favorite activity because it made me so proud to see campers gain confidence to speak and discuss their ideas in English.
I actually worked on the Scavenger hunt workshop so I hope campers enjoyed it. It’s an exciting workshop where we gave 4 challenges to test their teamwork and communication skills.
For haunted walk, we were inspired by different monsters from cultures all over the world. I dressed up in a Chinese hanfu and wore a scary mask. I brought a wushu fan that made a loud sound when it opened. I waited on a park bench, and when campers walked by in the dark, I jumped out and chased them, it was so fun to hear the campers and I hope it was exciting for them too.
